We lived in Chicago's West Loop for a year and it was disturbing how many bicyclists and runners were knocked over and in a few cases killed by cars and trucks. Ironically, it wasn't until we moved back to the 'burbs during the pandemic that I wound up getting knocked onto the hood of an elderly woman's Camry who was very slowly running a stop sign. Fortunately I only suffered a lot of bruises and a gashed leg. Unfortunately (for her) my adrenaline response scared the hell out of her.
